Lestchinsky, Jacob

Lestchinsky, Jacob
(1876-1966)
   German scholar. He was born in Horodicz in the Ukraine, and left the USSR in 1921 for Berlin. In the 1920s he helped to establish the Institute for Research into Contemporary Jewry and Judaism. He was a pioneer in the study of the sociology, economics and demography of Jewish life and published studies of Eastern European Jewry.
